Home Remedies For Headache

What is Headache?

Headache is among the most common medical complaints. The majority of them are not life 

threatening. They can be classified into three main categories, namely:

 Tension headaches


 Migraine headache


 Cluster headaches


Tension Headaches are the most common type of headaches. Migraines have well-defined attacks with 


symptoms like nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to lights and sounds. Cluster headaches are repetitive ones 

that occur for weeks to months at a time, followed by periods of remission.

Common Causes of Headache

A variety of factors can trigger headaches-

 Prolonged stress or tension




 Several physiologic changes in the head and brain


 Dilation and constriction of blood vessels


 Abnormal activity of certain neurons


 Genetic factors may be a cause for migraines


 Smoking and alcohol may cause cluster headaches

Home Remedies for Headache:

Tip 1

Roast some caraway seeds dry. Tie in a soft handkerchief or muslin cloth and sniff to get a relief from 


headaches.

Tip 2


Add 2 teaspoons of powdered cinnamon to 1 ½ cup of milk and boil it for one or two minutes. Add a 

teaspoon of honey, mix and stir it thoroughly and drink it at least twice a day when suffering from a 

headache.


Tip 3

Eating a chopped apple sprinkled with salt every morning for at least a week will help cure 


chronic headaches.


Tip 4


Head massage with rosemary oil or a pain balm that contains menthol is an effective way to ease 


migraine pain.






Tip 5

Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used to treat headaches. Add tea leaves and 


ginger to 1 cup of boiling water. Stir it well and drain the water. Leave till it cools a bit and drink.

Tip 6


Peppermint oil is a soothing remedy for curing headaches and migraines. This fresh smelling oil helps 

regulate blood flow in the body.

Tip 7

Lavender oil is a useful home remedy for headaches and migraines. The oil can be either inhaled or 


applied on your head. For inhaling, add 2-4 drops of lavender oil to 3 cups of boiling water and inhale 

the oil vapors.

Basil is a strong-scented herb used for natural headache treatment. The oil works as a muscle relaxant 


and is helpful for headaches caused by tension and tight muscles.

Tip 9

Food items like chocolate, sour cream, nuts, peanut butter and caffeinated beverages like coffee, tea or


cola, can trigger headaches. Avoid them if they give you a headache.

Tip 10

Mix ½ cup of apple cider vinegar with ½ cup of water. Boil the mixture in a covered saucepan. When it 


boils, remove from heat and leave for a minute. Lift the cover and slowly inhale the steam through your 

nose. This will provide instant relief from sinus headaches.

Tip 11

Make a warm soup and add some pepper in it. Warm soup will help you to get rid of nasal blockage and


will cure headaches.

Tip 12

Fatigue and lack of sleep can contribute to headaches during pregnancy. Make sure you get enough 


sleep during pregnancy.






Tip 13

Drink plenty of water daily, as it is important to stay hydrated especially when you are pregnant as 


dehydration can be a big cause of headache.

Tip 14

Apply a hot or cold compress to your forehead and neck to get instant relief from headache.

Tip 15

Physical activity like exercising and daily walk can help prevent headaches during pregnancy.

Tip 16

Eat small regular meals and make sure that you are eating healthy organic food throughout the day. 


This will keep your blood sugar on an even level, which can prevent headaches.

Make sure that your kid is getting enough sleep as sleeping often resolves headache in children.

Blackheads

• Blackheads are one of the most common forms of acne

Symptoms to look for:

• Dark spots appearing around:
   o Forehead
   o Nose
   o Chin area

Causes:

• Oil producing glands in the skin produce excess oil
• This leads to expansion and thickening of skin pores
• Oil accumulates in the pores and hardens
• Air reacts with this oil, turning it black in colour

Natural home remedy using lemon juice and cinnamon powder:

1. Take 1 tsp lemon juice
2. Add 1 tsp cinnamon powder
3. Mix well
4. Apply on the affected area
5. Leave it for 15-20 min
6. Repeat 2-3 times a day

Natural home remedy using coriander leaves and turmeric powder:

1. Crush a handful of washed coriander leaves
2. Press it on a sieve
3. Extract 1 tsp juice
4. Add 1 tsp turmeric powder to make paste
5. Apply this paste on the face every night
6. Leave it for 30 min
7. Wash off with lukewarm water

Natural home remedy using lemon juice and groundnut oil: 

1. Take 1 tsp lemon juice
2. Add 1 tsp groundnut oil
3. Mix well
4. Apply on the affected area
5. Leave it for 15-20 min before washing

Tips that come handy in Kitchen

Working in kitchen can really be fun if you know some basic keys. Here are some special tips to make your work interesting and comfortable.

  • To keep the chillies fresh for a longer time, remove the stems before storing.

  • Avoid the use of ghee. If it is necessary, substitute it with canola oil. Even for making halwa, you can partly substitute it with oil.

  • Garlic skin comes off easily if the garlic cloves are slightly warmed before peeling. 

  •  Putting 3-4 cloves in sugar container will keep the ants at bay.

  •  If you keep a piece of blotting paper at the bottom of the container, it will keep biscuits fresh for a longer time.

  •  Apply some lemon juice on the cut surface of the apple to avoid browning. They will look fresh for a longer time.

  • Apply mashed banana over a burn on your body for cooling effect.

  • To keep celery fresh for a long time, wrap it in aluminium foil and place in the refrigerator.

  • . Keeping a small piece of hing (asafoetida) in the same container will store chili powder for long time.

  • Use a wooden board to chop. It will not blunt the knife. Don`t use a plastic board, small plastic pieces may go with the vegetables.

  • Put some boric powder in kitchen in corners and other places. Cockroaches will leave your house.

  •  To chop dry fruits, place them in fridge for half an hour before cutting. Taking the fruits out and cut them with a hot knife (dip it in hot water before cutting).

  •  If the dough sticks to the rolling pin, place it in freezer for a few minutes.

  • Make a small hole in the egg by piercing a pin before boiling it. You will be able to remove its skin very easily.
  • To preserve green peas, keep them in a polythene bag in the freezer.

  •  Place a betel (paan) leaf over the leftover idli and dosa batter to prevent them from becoming sour. 

  • If you add half a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds to the lentil and rice mixture while soaking, dosas will be more crisp.

  • To ripen fruits, wrap them in newspaper and put in a warm place for 2-3 days. The ethylene gas they emit will make them ripe.

Besan Laddu

Ingredients:

  • Gram flour (besan) - 4 cups
  • Ghee - 2 cups
  • Green cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar - 2 cups
  • Almonds - 20-25
  • Raisins - 10-15


Method of preparation:
  • Heat ghee in a kadai and add green cardamom powder. 
  • Add gram flour and roast on low heat till a nice aroma is given out - for approximately ten minutes. 
  • Crush almonds and cut raisins.
  •  Transfer roasted gram flour to a bowl and add crushed almonds,raisins and mix.
  •  Allow the mixture to cool slightly before adding powdered sugar.
  •  Add sugar and mix.
  •  Roll into even sized laddoos.
  •  Cool and store.
